We started with a lot of enthusiasm this papier maché characters, made from balloons... I'll show you them, once they're ready!

Here's how we make the papier maché:

1) We tear up some journal. Use you hands to do this because we want the paper to have some irregularities, in this way it is better finished when glued together.

2) We disolve white glue (wood glue) with water.

3) We apply one glue cover, another of journal and again a glue cover.

4) It is better to do several of these and then let it dry.

Começámos, com muito entusiasmo, estas personagens em papier maché, a partir de balões... Depois mostro-vos assim que estiverem prontas!

Eis como fazemos este papier maché:

1) Rasgamos algum papel de jornal. É melhor usar as mãos, pois queremos que o papel fique com irregularidades, deste modo fica com melhor acabamento, quando colado.

2) Disolvemos a cola branca (cola de madeira) com água.

3) Aplicamos uma camada de cola, outra de jornal e mais uma de cola.

4) É melhor fazer várias camadas e depois deixar secar.

The importance of having materials "at hand."

Suddenly comes que urge to do! We're not sure from where, but it is irresistible. We want to materialize an idea, a dream, an image. We feel like picking up the brushes and paints or work on paper, cut, assemble, combine. Perhaps it can be in fabric or wool, oh, yes, what about some squines  ... hum, it'll be fantastic ...

Then ... our mind begins to work and there it comes some fantastic thoughts!
Paint, how awful! Then I'll have to clean it up and maybe even mess my new pants, no, it's best to leave it for another day!

Pieces of paper all over the way? OMG! Maybe it's better tidy as they are.
Sequins? Where do I put them? And the sewing box ... the thimble is missing, I'm not gonne make it. I'm already losing a lot of time with "this."

And there it goes our desire, where the hands fulfill our inner dream.
That's how time goes by between what we want and what we think is best. This game is purely mental.

For all these reasons, I am a huge advocate of having all the materials at hand. Yes, they do take up space,  and it is not all that tidy, but has a great reward, they are available, just there for us! Ready to serve us and to give free rein to our imagination.

For all this, I'm also a big advocate of  a "workshop" as a work context. And I'm very happy to have in the school a workshop full of materials, a little messed up and not so cleaned as well. How wonderful!

A importância de ter os materiais "à mão". 

De repente vem aquela vontade de fazer! Não sabemos bem de onde, mas é irresistível. Queremos materializar uma ideia, um sonho, uma imagem. Apetece-nos pegar nos pincéis e nas tintas ou trabalhar em papel, cortar, montar, conjugar. Talvez até possa ser em tecido ou lãs, já sei e que tal usa umas lantejoulas... hum, vai ficar fantástico... mas
... a nossa mente começa a funcionar e lá vêm uns pensamentos fantásticos! 

Tinta, que horror! Depois vou ter de limpar tudo e talvez até suje as minhas calças novas, não, é melhor deixar isso para outro dia! 

Papéis?! Espalhados por tudo o lado? Credo! Talvez estejam melhor ali arrumados.

Lantejoulas? Onde é que as pus mesmo? E a caixa de costura? Ai, falta-me o dedal, assim não vou conseguir! Já estou a perder imenso tempo com "isto".

E lá se vai aquele desejo de fazer, de satisfazer com as mãos aquele sonho interior.

É assim que o tempo vais passando entre o queremos e o achamos melhor, num jogo que é puramente mental.

Por tudo isto, sou uma acérrima defensora de ter todos os materiais à mão. Sim, ocupam espaço, sim, não está tudo tão arrumadinho, mas tem uma grande compensação, estão disponíveis, acessíveis! E melhor ainda, prontos para nos servirem, para darmos asas à nossa imaginação.

Por tudo isto, sou também uma grande apologista da "oficina" como contexto de trabalho. E estou muito feliz por termos na escola uma oficina cheia de materiais, um pouco desarrumada, claro, e "menos limpa" também. Como é maravilhosa!
